Robot mower slope checker
Makers rate slopes in percent, which is rise over run times 100. A 100% slope is 45 degrees, so the numbers look bigger than you expect.
Lay a straight board on the steepest part of your lawn, lift the low end until the board is level, and measure the gap. Enter both numbers below.
Your slope is 25% (14.0°).
81 of 98 mowers with a confirmed rating clear it with a 10-point margin.

Questions people ask
How do I convert degrees to slope percent?
Take the tangent of the angle and multiply by 100. 20 degrees is about 36%, 30 degrees about 58%.
Why add a 10-point margin?
Slope ratings assume dry, firm grass. Wet grass and soft soil cut grip, and several makers quote a lower figure along the boundary edge.
What slope can most robot mowers handle?
Two-wheel-drive models typically stop between 30% and 45%. All-wheel-drive models carry the highest ratings in our catalog.
Can I use a phone to measure slope?
Yes. Inclinometer apps read degrees; convert to percent with the formula above or enter the board numbers here.
